UNO Swept by Bearcats

OMAHA, Neb. –
The UNO women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match – 21-25, 18-25, 20-25 – to Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday night at Sapp Fieldhouse. With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 12-7 (2-5 MIAA), while the Bearcats improved to 8-6 (4-2 MIAA).

Freshman Megan Hutson led the way offensively with seven kills on .312 hitting, and outside hitters Kayla Uhing and Natalie Ebke each tacked on six apiece.

Junior libero Angie Reicks finished with 18 digs, and junior middle blocker Brittany Hanssen put up four blocks. Junior setter Emily Myers had 29 set assists, which moved her into sixth all-time on the UNO career assists chart with 3,042 in the last two-plus seasons.

The Mavs hit just .067 as a team, while NWMSU had a .181 performance for the night. Bearcat senior Sara Falcone, a native of Omaha, had a double-double on 11 kills and 10 digs with four blocks.

Falcone started NWMSU off with a bang, tallying six kills in the first set alone. With the score tied at 10-10, the Bearcats went on a 7-1 run . The Mavs brought it within two helped by a pair of Uhing kills, but Northwest stretched the lead to 24-20 for game point. Ebke put down a kill to make it 24-21, but a final Mav error gave Northwest Missouri State the early advantage.

In the second game, NWMSU's Alex Hannah had five kills on .625 hitting. UNO enjoyed as much as a 12-7 lead, but the Bearcats came back to go up 22-16. The two teams traded errors, but another Falcone kill ended it at 25-18.

In the final set, Hutson and Hanssen each notched four kills to give the Mavericks a fighting chance. Nebraska-Omaha looked poised to make a comeback, as it kept a consistent lead until NWMSU tied it at 14-all. UNO matched the score again, but a last 10-5 scoring run, led by three kills from Amber Ryan, closed the game at 25-20 and secured the Bearcat sweep.

UNO returns to action on Friday, Oct. 8, traveling to Missouri Western for a 7 p.m. conference match.
