HAYS, Kan. -- The UNO volleyball team finished the weekend off in style, grabbing a 3-0 road win over Fort Hays State at Gross Memorial Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. The Mavs earned the win with scores of 25-18, 25-16, 12-25, 25-23. With the win, UNO improves to 15-13 (5-11 MIAA), while FHSU drops to 7-20 (0-15 MIAA).
Three Mavs finished with double-figure kills -- senior outside hitter Kayla Uhing (14), junior middle blocker Brittany Hanssen (12) and sophomore outside hitter Natalie Ebke (10). Uhing added 19 digs and Ebke had 12, while three other Mavs had double-figure digs: junior libero Angie Reicks (22), redshirt freshman defensive specialist Amy Roberts (11) and freshman setter Miranda Wisehart (14). Wisehart had 40 assists in guiding Nebraska-Omaha to a team hitting percentage of .189 with 54 kills.
Hanssen led the way at the net, notching seven blocks, and Uhing, along with freshmen Abby Sorensen and Megan Hutson, added three apiece.
The Tigers were led by Tracie Hileman and Makayla McPhail, who had 15 and 13 kills, respectively. Hileman added 24 digs for a double-double. FHSU recorded 100 digs for the match, including 25 from Whitney Liggett and 22 by Kirsten Chamberlin.
Hanssen led the charge in game one, totaling five kills on .500 hitting, and Sorensen had two blocks. The Tigers tied it at 4-4, but UNO took over from there and never relinquished its lead. Wisehart had the final kill of the set, finishing it off at 25-18.
UNO had its best team attack percentage of the night in the second set, combining for a .250 average as a squad to outhit FHSU's .000. The Mavs led the entire game and capitalized on nine Tiger attack errors to grab a 16-25 victory.
Fort Hays came back with .308 hitting to take the third set, 25-12. Nebraska-Omaha halted the momentum, however, rallying back for a final fourth-game 25-23 win. Uhing and Ebke each tallied five kills, and the Mavericks put up six blocks to outblock FHSU's two blocks in the set.
UNO returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 3 against Northwest Missouri State. The match will be held at Red Oak High School in Red Oak, Iowa, at 7 p.m.
