EMPORIA, Kan. – The UNO volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match at No. 12 Emporia State Saturday night, falling 25-16, 25-14, 25-19 to the nationally-ranked Hornets. With the loss, the Mavericks are 14-13 (4-11 MIAA), while ESU is 19-6 (10-4 MIAA).

Miranda Wisehart tallied 26 set assists as the Mavs hit .192 as a team.
In game one, the Mavericks kept it close, tying the score at 14-14. Emporia State, however, came back with an 11-2 run – highlighted by three straight kills by Paige Vanderpool -- to put it away, taking the set at 25-16.
In the second set, ESU's offense gave the UNO defense a challenge, hitting .607 as a squad with just two attack errors. The Hornets went out to a 9-3 lead, and UNO narrowed the margin to five at 18-13. An Ebke kill was the Mavericks' lone point for the remainder of the game, with Emporia tallying four kills to finish it off at 25-14.
UNO hit .219 in the third set for its best mark of the evening, while the Hornets had their lowest percentage of the match at .257. Three early Maverick errors helped ESU to a 4-0 advantage, with UNO narrowing that to 8-7 just minutes later. ESU then rattled off seven straight points to go up 15-7, eventually taking the final game at 25-19 and the overall sweep at 3-0.
Emporia State had three players finish with double-figure kills – Jordan Lockwood (14), Vanderpool (12) and Brittney Miller (12). Lockwood hit .722 for the night, and setter Ting Liu notched 41 assists in guiding the Hornets to a .418 team attack percentage.
UNO returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 31, traveling to Fort Hays State. The match is slated for 3 p.m. in Hays, Kan.
