OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks were within four points of the lead the final seven minutes Saturday against No. 1 Central Missouri but they couldn't overcome the Mules in an 82-78 loss at Sapp Fieldhouse.

Both teams entered the game with identical one-loss records. The Mavs dropped to 12-2 overall and 5-2 in the MIAA while the Mules improved to 13-1 and 6-1.

Five Mavericks scored in double figures with #Tyler Bullock leading with 19. Matt Newman came off the bench for 15 points off a 6-of-8 performance from the field and Eugene Bain# scored 14 points inside for UNO. Bain also added a team-high 13 rebounds for a double-double.

#Andrew Bridger had 13 points and Jeff Martin# had 11. Martin and Newman were both 3-for-3 from 3-point range.

The Mavericks were down by 12, 63-51 at the 14:28 mark of the second half. They then went on a 10-1 run to cut the Mule lead to three with 10:48 remaining. After a 3-pointer by Bryce Brunz, the Mavs went on a 7-0 run to take their only lead of the game, 68-67 at the 7:42 mark. The Mules went back ahead after that and held off UNO.

UNO shot 42 percent in the game. UCM was 54 percent to become the first team to shoot better 50 percent or better against UNO. The Mavs were 64 percent from long range and 65 percent from the free throw line. The Mules were 44 percent from 3-point range and 56 percent from the line.

The rebound battle was even at 35 and UNO had fewer turnover with 11 to UCM's 15.

Sanijay Watts led all players with a double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds.
