OMAHA, Neb. - UNO swimmers posted three first place finishes, but it was not enough to pick up a win against Iowa State Friday night in the HPER pool. UNO finished with 78 points, a mere nine points behind the Division I Cyclone's 87.
In a night filled with strictly relays, the Mavs “A” team swam to UNO's first top finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Senior #Lisa Elworth#, junior's #Cait Hopkins#, #Lucy Zamecnik and sophomore Colleen Klaiber# finished 1:38.44 over Iowa State's team “A” time of 1:38.54.
Senior #Tessa Edwards# then joined Klaiber, Hopkins and Elworth in the 400 yard freestyle relay swimming to another first place finish with a time of 3:37.61 over the Cyclones team “A” time of 3:37.79.
UNO's final win came in the final event of the night when eight swimmers, freshmen #Cami Hansberry#, #Anna Haxby#, Elworth, Klaiber, freshman #Alicia Goetz#, junior #Laura Kemp#, Zamecnik and Hopkins, finished with a time of 3:18.10 just ahead of Iowa State's 3:18.72.
UNO will jump back into action when they travel to in-state rival Nebraska-Kearney Saturday afternoon. Events will begin at 2 p.m. in the Cushing Pool.
