EMPORIA, Kan. - Four Mavs reached double figures in kills but they played from behind nearly the entire time in a 3-2 loss at No. 3 Emporia State Saturday afternoon.
No. 18 Nebraska-Omaha fell to 14-4 and 4-1 in the MIAA while the Hornets improved to 14-1 and 4-1 in the league.
Ellen Thommes had 18 kills and hit .500 with two errors in 32 tries. Sara Kampscnieder led the team with 19 kills,
Kelli Goeser added 18 and
Lizzy Mach had 11. The Mavericks hit .236 as a team while ESU hit .311.
Emily Myers had 62 assists and 14 digs for a double-double and Kampschnieder earned a double-double with 22 digs.
Angie Reicks had 21 and
Natalie Ebke had 13.
The Mavericks won a marathon second set to even the match at one win each. ESU got to set point at 24-23 before the Mavs tied it and forced set point four times before an ESU attack error ended the match at 32-30 UNO.
The Hornets led the entire way in the third set and then after a UNO win in set four, ESU led wire to wire in the deciding set.
UNO fell to 2-2 this year in five-set matches.
