The 20-year UNO coach improved her record to 400-218 as the Mavs moved to 13-3 this year and 3-0 in the MIAA with the 25-10, 25-16, 25-18 win. They will wrap up a three-match home stand Wednesday at 7 p.m. against No. 6 Washburn.
Ellen Thommes had 11 kills and another error-free night as she had 21 attacks for a .524 hitting percentage. She had 19 kills Friday without an error and hit .556 in two matches at home this weekend.
Kayla Uhing had 10 kills for UNO and the Mavericks hit .270 as a team while SBU was held to just a .053 percentage.
Emily Myers had 35 assists and
Angie Reicks had 13 digs for the defense. Thommes led UNO with three blocks.
The Bearcats led the first set early at 4-3 but UNO went on a 7-0 run and stretched that into a 16-2 run to lead 20-6.
SBU never led again in the match. Alex Smith led the Bearcats with six kills.
Shires, already UNO's career wins leader, became the 21st active coach in NCAA II to win 400 matches and she is already the winningest active coach in the MIAA.
