Ellen Thommes# had 20 kills and hit .567 as the Maverick won their MIAA opener, 3-1 at Missouri Southern Wednesday night. The Mavericks improved to 11-3 (1-0 MIAA) as they took the match, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23, 25-21.

Lizzy Mach had 11 kills and hit .500 and Sara Kampschnieder# added 10 kills.
The Mavs were down, 11-9 in the first set before they went on a 9-0 run to take an 18-11 lead. The Lions then scored seven of the next nine points to pull within two but Kampschnieder broke that streak and then her kill on the final point clinched the set for UNO.
The second set was tied early, 5-5 before UNO went on an 11-2 run to go up, 16-7. MSSU never got closer than six.
Nebraska-Omaha was up late in the third set and looking to sweep the match with a 22-19 lead. The Lions then scored six of the final seven points to get the win.
After a 6-6 tie in the fourth set the Mavs took control and clinched the match.

Emily Myers set 50 assists for UNO and Angie Reicks led the back row with 15 digs while Natalie Ebke# added 11. Thommes led with five blocks.
The Mavs hit .267 as a team while MSSU had a .193 percentage.
