OMAHA, Neb. – UNO assistant men's basketball coach
Randall Herbst has been named the new head coach at the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. The announcement was made at a news conference on Thursday by the school's athletic director, Roger Thomas.

Derrin Hansen#, UNO's head coach. “He has worked very diligently during his time here and has been a big part of our success. He has earned this opportunity to be a head coach.”
In two seasons as head coach and recruiting coordinator, Herbst helped the Mavericks to a 42-18 record and a berth in the NCAA Division II regional tournament in 2008. UNO set a school record that year with 25 wins while advancing to the second round. That season, the Mavericks also won the final North Central Conference playoff championship.
Prior to arriving at UNO, Herbst was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Florida Southern. Before that, he served in the same position at North Dakota from 2000 – 2006 including a stint as associate head coach from 2004 – 2006.
