Griffons End Up On Winning Side of Long Battle

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Mavericks won the first two sets but Missouri Western took the next three to upset 20th-ranked UNO, 3-2 Friday night.

Each of the first four sets went into extra points before a team could come out with a two-point difference. The Mavs (20-11, 10-8 MIAA) took the first two, 30-28 and 33-31 and then the Griffons took the next two, 30-28 and 27-25. The final set was won by MWSU, 15-13.

The entire match featured 67 ties cores and 27 lead changes.

Four Mavericks had double-figure kills. Sara Kampschnieder led with 21 and she added 11 digs for a double-double. Lizzy Mach had 13, Kayla Uhing had 12 and Kelli Goeser had 11.

Angie Reicks led the back row with 21 digs and Mach had a hand on seven of UNO's eight blocks.

Emily Myers had 60 assists.

The Mavericks hit .247 in the match while and MWSU had a .232 percentage. MWSU held an 82-69 advantage in total kills.

UNO will continue action Saturday at 6 p.m. at Truman.
