WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Mavericks were out hit in every set as they fell, 3-1 to Washburn in the first round of the NCAA South Central Region tournament Thursday at the Central Missouri Multipurpose Building.
Seventh-seeded Nebraska-Omaha ended its season at 20-14 while the No. 2 seed Lady Blues improved to 33-4. They took the match, 23-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-22, and they'll play West Texas A&M in the second round Friday.
Kelli Goeser led UNO with 14 kills and a .224 attack percentage while
Sara Kampschnieder had 13 kills.
Emily Myers had 37 assists for UNO, ranked 23rd in the nation.
Angie Reicks led the back row with 24 digs while Kampschnieder addeed 20 for a double-double.
Ellen Thommes led UNO above the net with seven blocks.
The Mavericks won a close first set but quickly dropped the next two to Washburn, ranked No. 8 in the nation. The Lady Blues led by just one in the fourth set at 16-15, before a 4-0 run gave them a five-point lead. A late 3-0 by UNO made the score 23-21, WU, but the Lady Blues scored two of the next three points to clinch the match.
Thommes ended her career with a .342 attack percentage, the third best in school history. She had a .388 percentage this year, the third best single-season mark at UNO.
Thommes finished 10th in school history with 1,282 kills and 1,608.0 points. She finished fourth in school history with 394 blocks and seventh with 440 total blocks.
Myers, UNO's sophomore setter, finished the season ninth in career assists at UNO with 2,348. Her 1,411 this year was the fifth-highest single-season total.
Four Washburn players reached double figures in kills. Mollie Lacy led that group and hit .448 in the match.
UNO hit just .105 in the match while WU had a .234 percentage. The blocks were tied at 7-7 and WU held a 96-85 advantage on digs.
