Mavericks Dominate Lopers

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha swimming and diving team kicked off its 2008-09 season with a dominating performance Friday night, winning nine of ten events in route to a 101-77 victory over the visiting Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney.

UNO Sophomore Jessica Connick swept both the 1m and 3m diving contest, bettering second place in both events by a combined total of more than 75 points, while fellow sophomore Cait Hopkins helped lead the way for the Mavericks in the pool.  Hopkins won the 100-yard Freestyle event in a time of: 57 seconds and was a member of UNO's first place 200-yard Medley Relay, turning in a time of 1:56.61.

The Mavs swept the top eight spots in all six of the individual swimming events, with a different swimmer claiming each.

The Mavericks, now 1-0 on the year, will travel to Ames, Iowa next Saturday, Oct. 11, to take on the Iowa State Cyclones at 1 p.m.
