Mavs Survive Physical Battle, Defeat Bearcats, 71-

The University of Nebraska-Omaha defeated Northwest Missouri State, 71-64, in a highly physical game Friday night at Sapp Fieldhouse.

The teams combined for 48 fouls and 40 turnovers on the night. The Mavericks (9-1) shot only 36 percent from the floor, but hit 29-of-33 free-throw tries for 88 percent. The Bearcats (4-3) shot only 28 percent on the night.

Cayla Hargrove had 11 points, but scored five in the last 17 seconds which put away a close game. Nursing a four-point lead in the final minute, the Mavericks moved the ball around the court, avoiding the inevitable foul. Hargrove found a clearing on the left wing and took pass from Lindsey Klug, hitting a big 3-pointer to make the lead seven points. Her two free throws with eight seconds left iced the game.

Alyssa Green led UNO in scoring once again, putting in 18 points, adding six rebounds. Amanda Brodsack scored 10 with a team-best nine rebounds.

Mandi Schumacher led the Bearcats with 21 points off the bench, adding six rebounds. Andrea Dill scored 15.

The Mavericks continue their homestand Monday with a 6 p.m. game against regional rival Colorado State-Pueblo.
