Makenzie Gillaspie joined the UNO women’s soccer coaching staff as a graduate assistant in 2012. After a standout four-year career at Milwaukee, the Elkhorn native is pursuing a Master’s degree in psychology with an emphasis in school psychology at UNO.

Gillaspie started 79 games at Milwaukee, which is tied for sixth in school history. As a senior in 2011, Gillaspie was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team, as well as the Horizon League All-Tournament Team. Despite tearing a ligament in her knee in September, Gillaspie went on to make 19 starts and log 1,677 minutes. After playing primarily as a midfielder in the first three years of her career, Gillaspie transitioned to defender in her final season. She helped the Panthers post 11 shutouts while contributing one goal and two assists. Gillaspie finished her career with nine goals and six assists.

At Elkhorn High School, Gillaspie led the Antlers to state championships in 2006 and 2007. She was a four-time all-state selection at Elkhorn.

“I’m really excited to join the UNO staff,” Gillaspie said. “This is where I grew up, so after being away for four years at college I’m glad to move closer to home. UNO is an up and coming program and with the transition to Division I and The Summit League, I’m excited to be a part of it.”
