Janet Butler enters her second season as an assistant coach with the Omaha women’s basketball program in 2019-20.

Butler joins the Mavericks after spending the 2017-18 season as an assistant at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.  At Monmouth, she led the program's guard development, assisted with recruiting duties and served as the marketing and development and academic liaison. She was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Thirty Under 30 list that season.

Before joining the Hawks, Butler served as an assistant coach at the University of Nevada. She was elevated to that role in July 2015, after serving as the Director of Operations from 2013-2015 and as a Graduate Assistant from 2012-2013. Within her various roles, she assisted with player development and recruiting. She also coordinated the community service, camps, clinics and social media efforts for the Wolf Pack. 

She began her coaching career at the University of Louisiana Monroe in 2011-12 as an assistant coach.

Butler played collegiately at Louisiana College, where she was a two-time co-captain and a three-time American Southwest Conference All-Academic selection. She helped her team to two straight regular-season American Southwest Conference titles, as well as berths to the NCAA Division III National Tournament in 2009-10 and 2010-11. Following her playing career, she was selected as a member of the WBCA's "So You Want To Be a Coach" Program in 2011. 

A native of Eros, La., Butler earned her degree in health & physical education with teacher certification from Louisiana College in 2011. Butler earned her master's degree in educational leadership from Nevada in 2014.
