2000-2001 (Sophomore):
Struggled with ankle and shoulder injuries all season and played in only 21 games...Tallied 0-4-4 on the season and his four assists came in four consecutive weekends against Northern Michigan, Alabama-Huntsville, Notre Dame and Lake Superior State...He was plus or even in 16 of 21 games.

1999-2000 (Freshman):
Played in 30 games as a rookie, tallying 2-13-15...He finished sixth on the team with his 13 assists and was second on the team among defensemen with a +8...Scored his first collegiate goal in the 3-2 win over UMass-Amherst on Nov. 10...His other goal on the season came in a 7-2 loss at Bowling Green on Dec. 9...He recorded at least one assist in UNO’s last six CCHA series...He had three games in which he had two assists, all against CCHA opponents...Recorded nine of his season total 15 points after winter break and earned UNO’s most improved player award.

Junior Hockey:
Came to UNO after playing with the Lloydminster Blazers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League where he scored eight goals and 30 assists in 65 games in 1999-2000...He helped the Blazers to a franchise-best 42-18-4 record...Was selected to the AJHL all-rookie team after his first season as a junior player.

Personal:
Born September 26, 1981 in Edmonton, Alberta, the son of Ron and Debbie Gabinet...Was selected in the eighth round by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft...Hobbies are playing golf and lifting weights...His grandfather, Clare Drake, is the second-winningest collegiate coach in North America after 697 wins in 28 seasons with the University of Alberta.

Coach Kemp on Gabinet:
"Mike's sophomore season was plagued by injury from start to finish. We expect him to regain the form we saw emerging in his freshman season as a Maverick. Postseason surgery is expected to have repaired the injuries that he suffered last season and we look forward to him coming back full strength."
