Assistant Coach Tyler Erwin enters his 13th season on the Omaha men’s basketball staff in 2021-22, having joined the program in 2009-10. Erwin previously spent four years as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.

Prior to his stint at Simpson, Erwin spent one summer as the director of basketball operations and an assistant coach for the Nebraska Cranes, a now-defunct development team in the United States Basketball League.

Erwin began his coaching career at Midland University, where he was an assistant coach and head junior varsity coach from 2000 to 2003. He went on to serve as a graduate assistant coach at Nebraska-Kearney from 2003 to 2005.

A native of Laurel, Neb., Erwin attended Laurel-Concord High School, where he was an all-state and all-conference player in basketball and football. He then attended Midland University, where he was a four-year letterwinner for the Warriors. As a senior, he earned all-conference honors and led his team to the Nebraska Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship and a berth in the 2000 NAIA national tournament.

Erwin received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and coaching from Midland University in 2000. He later earned a master’s degree in physical education and sports administration from Nebraska-Kearney in 2005.

Erwin is an active member of the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association, Nebraska Coaches Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and he volunteers his time with the Special Olympics. Along with his coaching responsibilities, he is an instructor in UNO’s school of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. He and his wife, Lindsey, have two daughters, Adyson and Emerson.
