Tyler Goodro was named the assistant coach of the University of Nebraska Omaha baseball team in September 2023. His on-field duties will primarily be working with catchers, as well as helping coach offense and base-running.
Goodro comes to The Mavericks after spending the 2023 season as the bullpen coach with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association of Professional Baseball. Goodro’s duties included working with catchers, assisting with hitters, game-planning, and managing the bullpen during games.
For over 15 years Goodro has instructed, coached and scouted thousands of youth, high school and collegiate baseball players. He has also been instrumental in the tutelage of several Major League and professional catchers.
Prior to beginning his coaching career, Goodro was a standout catcher at Omaha Creighton Prep, eventually committing to Arkansas. He transferred after the Fall semester of his freshman year to Butler Community College in the Jayhawk (KS) League, helping propel Butler to reach the NJCAA World Series for just the second time in school history and earning 1st Team All-Conference and an NJCAA WS All-Tournament honorable mention in the process. Goodro finished up his collegiate career at the University of Cincinnati, earning honorable mention All Big East.
Goodro would go on and play five seasons (2009-2013) of professional baseball.
Over the past couple of years, Goodro has developed a well-known catching brand and website (@goodrocatching/
www.goodrocatching.com) that is devoted to helping catchers all over the country improve their skills with camps, videos, articles, drills, etc.
An Omaha, Nebraska native, Goodro earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Cincinnati (2008) and a master’s degree from Bellevue (2009). He resides in Elkhorn with his wife, Julia and their two kids Eli and Bode.
