OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Men's Soccer staged a comeback with four unanswered goals against Eastern Illinois for a 4-2 win over the Panthers on Thursday night at Caniglia Field.
The Mavericks (1-0-0) beat EIU (0-1-0) thanks to an unassisted goal from junior forward
Mikey Stukenholtz (Gretna, Neb.) in the 48th minute.
Freshman defender
Matt Hosty (Overland Park, Kan.) added some extra insurance in the 77th minute off an assist from senior midfielder
Brett Perkins (Gretna, Neb.).
Junior midfielder
Amari Fowlkes (Carmel, Ind.) netted the opening goal in the 28th minute with an assist from junior forward
Derek Johnson (Gig Harbor, Wash.). Fowlkes then assisted junior defender
Simon Guardiero (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) in the 35th minute on the goal that tied the game.
Eastern Illinois was up 2-0 when Fowlkes scored his first goal. The Omaha defense and senior goalkeeper
Kamy Ndione (Osaka, Japan) did not allow the Panthers to score for the rest of the night.
In 90 minutes, the Mavs tallied 18 shots with 12 on goal. Eastern Illinois recorded six shots with four on goal.
The Mavericks are back at home on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. CT to face FIU.
