Durango inks jersey patch sponsorship with OrthoNebraska

OMAHA, Neb. – He's pumped-up packed crowds, celebrated championships, danced with fans and photobombed countless Mavericks of all ages. Now, Durango has added another first to his growing résumé.

Omaha Athletics and OrthoNebraska are proud to announce a first-of-its-kind partnership, making Durango the first college mascot in Nebraska to sign an official corporate sponsorship.

For more than 30 years, Durango has embodied the fearless, independent spirit of the Mavericks, entertaining generations of fans while representing Omaha at athletic events, campus traditions and throughout the community. First introduced as the face of the Mavericks in 1993, Durango carries on a tradition that dates back to 1971, when students overwhelmingly voted to adopt the Mavericks nickname and begin a new chapter in university history.

Now, thanks to OrthoNebraska, Durango will be even more visible throughout the Omaha community.

Whether he's leading the crowd at UNO, celebrating with student-athletes, making appearances at youth events or attempting to stay out of the mascot penalty box, Durango will proudly represent Omaha alongside one of Nebraska's leading orthopedic providers.

Durango, however, declined to comment. Sources close to the mascot say he was too busy perfecting his dance moves and negotiating for unlimited postgame ice packs.

The partnership will include an OrthoNebraska jersey patch on all Durango uniforms, community appearances, gameday activations and fan engagement initiatives throughout the year, all designed to connect Maverick fans with OrthoNebraska in creative and memorable ways.

While today's college athletics landscape continues to evolve with innovative partnerships, this agreement proves that NIL isn't just for student-athletes anymore. In Nebraska, the state's most recognizable Maverick has officially entered the sponsorship game.
