OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Baseball (1-3) travels to San Diego for the Tony Gwynn Legacy Tournament from Feb. 19-21. Games will be played at San Diego State, the University of San Diego, and UC San Diego.
The Mavericks are coming off a three-game series in Phoenix from Feb. 13-15 against Arizona State, followed by a 3-1 win at Arizona on Tuesday, Feb. 17, in Tucson.
In Phoenix, Omaha plated four runs over the first two innings on Feb. 15, highlighted by a two-run single from
Brody Sexton in the second inning, before Arizona State closed out the series with a 6-4 victory.
Drew Borner opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI walk that scored
Henry Zipay for a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks added three runs in the second as Zipay delivered an RBI single to center, and Sexton followed with a two-run single to shallow right, scoring
Chase Diggins and Zipay to extend the lead to 4-0.
In Tucson, Omaha defeated Arizona 3-1. Diggins delivered a three-run double, scoring
Mason Gaines,
Hayden Lewis, and Borner to give the Mavericks a 3-0 advantage. Diggins finished 2-for-4 with all three of Omaha's RBIs and is batting .375 (6-for-16) through four games with a double, three RBIs, and two walks.
On the mound, right-hander
Maddox Meyer, a 2026 Summit League Player to Watch, struck out 10 over six innings, allowing two hits to earn the win against Arizona.
Entering Thursday's matchup against BYU, Zipay and
Jackson Trout lead Omaha with five hits apiece. Sexton has the team's only home run, which came in the season opener on Feb. 13 against Arizona State in Phoenix. Sexton and Diggins share the team lead with three RBIs.
Omaha opens the three-day tournament in California on Feb. 19 against BYU (2-2) at San Diego State. First pitch is set for 8 p.m. CT at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Game two is scheduled for Feb. 20 against Western Michigan (1-2) at UC San Diego's Triton Ballpark in La Jolla, Calif., with first pitch at 3 p.m. CT. The Mavericks will face Western Michigan again on Feb. 21 at the University of San Diego, with first pitch set for 2 p.m. CT.
