FARGO, ND – After heavy rain caused cancellation of two games, Omaha and North Dakota State finally closed out the 2025 regular season as the Bison claimed a 12-2 (7 inn.) win on a chilly Saturday afternoon in Fargo. With South Dakota State's loss at home to Oral Roberts, Omaha (19-28, 12-16 Summit League) will be the third seed in the Summit League Championship tournament this week (May 21-24) at Tal Anderson Field.
Oral Roberts University will be the top-seed in the four team event, which determines the Summit League's representative in the NCAA baseball tournament. NDSU is the second seed, setting up a rematch with third-seeded Omaha Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. CT. The Golden Eagles, who shared the regular season title with St. Thomas (ineligible for post-season during DI transition), will meet SDSU Wednesday at 12:00 P.M. CT. Information regarding tickets, Summit League Network broadcasts and more can be found on the Summit League's Championship page.
The Mavericks offense never got untracked against the Bison, including NDSU starter Leland Wilson (WP, 1-3), who struck out four of the six batters he faced. The Bison led 4-0 before Omaha had its first baserunner on Sam Beck's two-out bunt single against reliever Alex Karns. The Mavericks scored their first run in the fifth after Noah Griese reached on a two-out error. After Mason Gaines was hit by a pitch, Drew Borner singled up the middle to score Griese and cut the Bison lead to 4-2.
In the fifth, Greise was aboard after a walk, and with two outs Tyler Palmer's triple cut the NDSU lead to 5-2. The Mavericks were unable to score again, as NDSU piled up 12 runs on 16 hits, compared to two runs on three hits for the Mavs. Tanner Foertsch (2-3) took the loss for the Mavs.
