OMAHA, Neb.- The Mavericks made it back-to-back series victories today as they erupted with 11 runs on offense to force the seven-inning run rule in an 11-1 win vs. North Dakota State.
Omaha ends the week at 11-18 with a 5-7 Summit League record, while the Bison slip to 9-18 with a 7-4 conference mark.
Innings 1-4
The Mavericks got the day started with an explosive six-run bottom of the first that saw nine batters come to the plate.
Tyler Bishop opened scoring with a double to right to bring home the lead-off man
Jackson Trout, followed by a productive RBI groundout from
Mason Gaines and another RBI double from
Cardel Dick to make it 3-0. Following a walk to
Tyler Palmer, NDSU was forced to go to their bullpen, only for their next pitcher to immediately surrendered the third double of the inning to
Blake Stenger who drove in two more.
Drew Borner would cap off the inning with a sac fly to bring in Stenger.
Omaha would get two more runs in the bottom of the fourth after Trout ripped his first career triple to right to bring home
Sam Beck, who reached on an infield single to start the inning. Bishop would plate the eighth run with his third hit of the day on a single up the middle.
Meanwhile,
Maddox Meyer was lights out the first four innings, allowing no runs and just two hits while striking out three.
Innings 5-7
It would take until the sixth inning for the Bison to get on the board on a solo home run from Colten Becker. Omaha would get that run right back, however, in the bottom of the inning as Dick doubled for the second time today and later scored on a single from Palmer.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh with a 9-1 lead, Trout reached on the sixth Maverick extra-base hit of the day and his second with a double down the left field line. After a walk to Bishop to put two runners on with two outs, Gaines hit one directly between the first and second basemen to make it 10-1, before Dick put the game away with a walk-off single to left to bring in Bishop.
