OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks opened their eight-game homestand with a 10-0 loss to Creighton today in seven innings. Omaha is now 5-17, while the Bluejays improve to 14-6.
Innings 1-3
Creighton quickly took the lead in the top of the first on a Nolan Sailors double immediately followed by a two-run home run from Ben North. The next inning,
Gavin Brummund was brought in and tossed back-to-back scoreless innings to keep it a 3-0 game.
The Mavericks bats, meanwhile, were nine up nine down through the first three.
Innings 4-7
The Bluejays plated another seven runs over the next three innings, getting home runs from Will McLean and North for his second of the day.
Omaha broke up the no-hitter in the bottom of the fifth with singles from
Sam Beck and
Drew Borner, but neither would come around to score. Later, in the bottom of the seventh, the Mavericks had a chance to extend the game after loading the bases with a walk and two hit by pitches, but once again each runner would remain stranded as one last strikeout ended the game.
