Around the Horn
three-game series against Oral Roberts starting Friday at 6 p.m.
• Last week, Omaha finished off its second straight week at home with a 3-1 non-conference upset over K-State on Wednesday, before getting swept by St. Thomas in the first Summit League series of the year.
• The win over the Wildcats was Omaha's third over a power conference opponent this year and featured one of the best performances from the pitching staff all season. Going with a bullpen day, the Mavericks used nine pitchers with only Gavin Brummund, Luke Gainer, and Oliver Mabee going more than one inning. These nine held K-State hitless through the first 5.2 innings. Carter Mick earned the win for his second of the season, while Matt Dreher picked up his second save.
• The Mavericks scored 21 runs in three games against the Tommies, getting four home runs in the series opener alone. Eli Hoerner and Tyler Palmer each hit their first career home run, while Cardel Dick mashed two, including his second career grand slam.
• In the final game of the series, Tyler Bishop got his first home run of the season with a two-run shot in the seventh. This extended his hitting streak to five straight games.
•Both Bishop and Dick have reached double-digit RBIs on the season, joining Jackson Trout who leads the team with 15.
Henry Zipay also had a good week at the plate, notching a double in three out of four games to give him six on the the season, good for fourth in the league.
• In game two of the series, the only to not see at least 20 combined runs scored, Omaha used just two pitchers in the game with Brayden Curtis going the first three innings and Ben Weber posting his longest outing of the season with six innings of two-run ball and a season-high eight strikeouts. Weber is now tied with Cameron Teinert for the team lead in strikeouts with 17.
