Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving complete top-four finishes at Summit League Championships

Feb 23, 2025

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Omaha Swimming and Diving capped off its 2024-25 season on Saturday as it completed the last of a successful four-day run in the Summit League Championships at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center.

"There are always things to improve upon, but with that said, we kicked some butt," head coach Jessica Hessel said. "I am proud of how well our swimmers and divers performed this past week. There was so much more resilience, and we saw so much more success through that. This team competed with heart, which made our success feel much more rewarding. There is nothing better than being a Maverick.

On the final day of events, senior Payton Easley placed second in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 49.95, a new program record.

Omaha placed two teams in the 400-free relay. Both set new program records, with the men's team (2:57.58) in second and the women's team (3:22.82) in third place.

Omaha also set 12 new program records, seven women's and five men's. It set program records in all freestyle relays and both team diving events.

In the overall standings, the Mavericks' women's team placed third out of seven after accumulating 568.5 points.

As for the men's team, Omaha finished fourth also out of seven and totaled 507.5 points.

The pair of Maverick teams combined for 17 medals throughout the four-day event. The women's team led the way with 10 medals, and the men finished with seven.

The Mavericks had three events in which a championship was crowned. Easley (women's 50 free, 22.79) and senior Hailey Matthews (100 back, 54.57) were champions in individual events. Easley set a record in the finals, and Matthews' preliminary time of 54.55 in the 100 back also set a new program record.

Sophomore Brooke Robbins, freshman Ava Snyder and junior Bella Price secured a championship in Thursday's women's springboard team diving event (277.00).

11 student-athletes from the women's team (eight swimmers and three divers) and 10 from the men's team (seven swimmers and three divers) earned All-Summit League honors.

The senior class competed in their last competition as a team.

"This year's senior class was the first group to go through this program as a men's and women's program," Hessel said. "They went through so much to help define what it means to be an Omaha swimmer or diver. I appreciate their buy-in and shared vision of Omaha Swimming and Diving. Now, I can officially say mission accomplished. They led our team to a successful season and directed our returners to carry on the traditions and foundation they created. The future is bright, and I can not thank our 2024-25 team enough."
