Men's Basketball takes part in Big Sky-Summit Challenge

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Men's Basketball (3-6) looks to continue its 13-game home win streak Wednesday, Dec. 3 in one of the most anticipated non-conference matchups inside Baxter Arena when the Mavericks welcome Mid-Major No. 19 Northern Colorado (7-1) at 7 p.m. CT. Wednesday's game is Omaha's first of two in the Big Sky-Summit Challenge.

The tilt with the Bears is a blackout and 300 fans receive a black "For the 402" t-shirt. Wednesday's game is presented by Douglas County.

Gary Sharp has the call on 1290 KOIL in Omaha, the Varsity Network and on the Summit League Network.

Chris Crutchfield's Mavericks were without back court stalwarts Tony Osburn and Grant Stubblefield in Saturday's 84-62 win over Mid-America Christian, moving Omaha to six-straight victories against non-Division I foes. For the fifth time this season, Omaha saw four or more players tally double-figure scoring, led by Lance Waddles' 21 points.

Waddles has been the Mavericks' hot hand as of late, shooting nearly 50 percent from the field (55-112) with 30 made 3-pointers. The Shreveport, La. native and North Dakota State transfer is the lone Summit League player this season to record multiple double-doubles. He averages 16.9 p.p.g. and 5.7 r.p.g. in nine starts, posting 31.1 minutes a night.

Newcomers Christian Richardson and Brock Scholl have combined for 14 blocks through the Mavericks' first nine contests this season.

At home, Omaha has gotten the friendly roll as the Mavericks have shot at least 50 percent from the field in each of their first three home matchups. The Mavericks have also shot at least 51.6 percent from downtown inside Baxter Arena and have outscored opponents by 43 points through three home games.

Northern Colorado arrives in Omaha having won four consecutive. UNC continues to separate itself statistically as one of the most efficient teams in the country, owning top 40 national ranks in field goal percentage (50.2), 3-point field goals per game (11.5), assists per game (19.6) and free-throw percentage (80.3 percent).

Quinn Denker has exploded at the one for UNC. Leading one of the nation's top offenses, Denker was named the Big Sky's Player of the Week and is one of just a handful of guards national averaging 18-plus points and six-plus assists per game.

Led by six-year head coach Steve Smiley, the Bears have finished .500 or better in back-to-back seasons, including a staggering .714 winning percentage last season. The Bears fell to (1) UC Irvine in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament.

All-time Omaha and Northern Colorado are tied 33-33 with the series beginning during the 1946-47 season. Since 2000, Omaha leads the Bears 7-1 with the most recent meeting coming a decade ago on Nov. 25, 2015, a 105-85 win for Omaha.

Looking ahead, Omaha closes-out the Big Sky-Summit Challenge at Portland State on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. CT on ESPN+ and 1290 KOIL.
