OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Men's and Women's Basketball are set for the 2025 Summit League Basketball Media Day to be held Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. Both the men's and women's preview shows will begin at 9 a.m. CT and are expected to conclude at approximately 1:30 p.m. CT.
Omaha will join the women's show, hosted by Hurrdat Sports, at 12:40 p.m. CT and the men will go live with the Field of 68 crew at 12:15 p.m. CT. Both shows will stream on the Summit League Network free of charge.
Joining reigning Summit League Coach of the Year
Chris Crutchfield, entering his fourth season leading the Mavericks, will be senior guard
Tony Osburn (Fairfax, Mo.) and graduate student center
Isaac Ondekane (Kinshasa, Congo).
Osburn steps into a new role in 2025-26 as the 6-foot-2 guard is expected to start as the Mavs' point guard. Osburn started all but one game for Omaha last season shooting at a 43.9 percent clip from the field. Osburn made 39.2 percent of his three-point attempts (74-189) and sank 77 of 79 free throw tries (85.6 percent). Averaging 12.1 points per game last season, Osburn tallied 19 games in double-figure scoring last season. Osburn increased his offensive output by over 88 percent season-over-season, helping lead the Mavericks to their first-ever Summit League regular-season and tournament titles, culminating in Omaha's first March Madness appearance.
Ondekane returns to Omaha for his second season in black and red. The 6-foot-8 center had a stellar summer session on the court and in the weight room. Ondekane, now listed at 250 pounds, averaged 17.0 minutes a night for Crutchfield last season in 35 games played, starting all but one. The Lindenwood transfer recorded nine games of five or more rebounds, including a career-high 12 at South Dakota (Jan. 29, 2025). Ondekane finished the season 72-of-124 (58.1 percent) from the field, totaling 185 points (5.3 p.p.g.). The big man blocked 13 shots a season ago, including a pair against Mount Marty on Dec. 28, 2024.
Omaha's men's basketball roster returns 54 percent of points scored from last season's championship team with Omaha bringing back three of five starters (Osburn, Ondekane,
Kamryn Thomas). With six newcomers, Omaha returns nine from the 2024-25 squad.
Maverick women's basketball ushers in a new era this season with the arrival of first-year head coach
Jamie Carey after a successful stint at UTSA as associate head coach. Carey will be joined by junior forward
Cora Olsen (Omaha, Neb.) and transfer guard, graduate student
Sarai Estupiñan (Cedar Park, Texas). Hired on May 4, 2025, Carey assembled a roster and coaching staff at record-speed with Omaha returning just three student-athletes. Including Estupiñan, 12 newcomers fill-out the Mavs' ranks in 2025-26.
Omaha's top returning scorer, Olsen averaged just shy of 10 points per game in only 18 outings last season. A 40.9 percent shooter from the field, Olsen record 58 total rebounds, including 42 off the defensive glass. The forward dished 25 assists and recorded 21 steals. Olsen finished in double-figures in eight games last season and made a season best six field goals against Bellevue on Dec. 18, 2024.
No stranger to Carey, Estupiñan comes to Omaha from Old Dominion where she spent one season with the Monarchs. At ODU, Estupiñan tallied 58 minutes over 15 games. Before ODU, Estupiñan took a redshirt year at UTSA and prior to that, spent one season at St. Mary's (Texas) where she made 23 appearances in addition to a successful stint at Tallahassee Community College. At TCC, Estupiñan was named Second-Team All-Panhandle Conference after leading the school in scoring with 13.0 ppg and shooting 33.6 percent from the field.
