OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Men's Soccer (3-6-3, 1-1-1 Summit) scored in the fifth minute and didn't look back Tuesday as the Mavericks topped UTRGV (1-7-1) 5-1 at Caniglia Field in the penultimate non-conference fixture of the season.
Junior forward
Italo Jenkins (Atlanta, Ga.) opened the scoring with his first of two goals on the night, assisted by graduate student forward
Theo Klein (Strasbourg, France) and sophomore forward
Mikey Stukenholtz (Gretna, Neb.). Klein and Stukenholtz would finish with multi-point outings.
Not even three minutes later, Klein doubled the Mavs' lead with a penalty kick goal, his second of the season. Klein would finish the first half with his fifth career brace, finding the high left corner assisted by Stukenholtz.
Graduate student forward Johan Magana (Fellsmere, Fla.) finished the scoring in the first half with Omaha's fourth goal in 32 minutes with an assist from Gretna, Neb. product and junior midfielder
Brett Perkins.
The four-goal half marked Omaha's most goals in a period since the side scored five in the second half at St. Thomas on Nov. 2, 2024.
UTRGV cut the deficit to three in the 52nd minute when Sota Matuso went high center above Mavericks' keeper senior
Cole Stewart (Lee's Summit, Mo.).
Jenkins tallied a brace in the 61st minute off Stukenholtz's third assist of the night. He finished the evening with three points. Omaha has now scored at least five goals in five matches since the arrival of head coach
Donovan Dowling in 2022.
Stewart shined in goal with five saves on eight shots faced.
Sophomore midfielder
Brian Franco (Omaha, Neb.) made his season debut Tuesday.
Omaha continues conference play at Delaware on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. CT on the Summit League Network.
