OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Men's Soccer picked up a crucial point in the Summit League table Saturday as the Mavericks (2-6-3, 1-1-1 Summit) battled league newcomer UMass (5-3-5, 1-1-1 Summit) to a 1-1 draw at Caniglia Field.
Not even 90 seconds into Saturday's fixture, the Mavericks got on the board when graduate student midfielder
Yoshiki Igarashi (Tokyo, Japan) fed the service to junior forward
Italo Jenkins (Atlanta, Ga.). Omaha would hold the 1-0 lead for more than 81 minutes Saturday after Jenkins' third goal of the campaign. Igarashi holds six points on the season from six assists.
Omaha would have five scoring chances in the opening period, holding UMass to a trio of shots. The sides finished with an even five shots-on-target.
In the first 45 minutes, Omaha had a sequence of three straight corner kicks to finish the first half with six. UMass received seven corner kick opportunities out of halftime while the Mavericks were held to two.
UMass leveled the tally in the 83rd minute off a set piece finish by Brad Moccio off the corner kick service from Matt Cence.
Omaha returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. CT in a non-conference tilt with UTRGV at Caniglia Field on the Summit League Network.
