Swimming and Diving drops meet at South Dakota

VERMILLION, S.D. – Omaha swimming and diving came close but ultimately fell in both men's and women's meets against Summit League foe South Dakota at the DakotaDome Pool on Friday.

The men's team produced nine first-place finishes in the events, with eight of the wins coming in individual events. Despite a strong showing, the men fell 145-155 at the DakotaDome Pool.

The Omaha women's squad produced eight top finishes, seven of which were individual events.

Junior Jace Walker finished the day with two wins in the men's 100 butterfly (57.23) and the 100 freestyle (52.53).

Freshman Owen Kipp also finished first in the men's one-meter (300.08) and three-meter (284.55) dives.

Senior Payton Easley was crowned with two individual victories in the women's 50-meter freestyle (26.66) and the 100-meter freestyle (57.85).

Junior Bella Price also succeeded off the diving board, winning the women's one-meter dive (246.08) and the three-meter dive (249.00).

In the men's one-meter dive, the Mavericks rounded out the top three, including Kipp. Senior Ian Blackstock finished second (289), and sophomore Will Mueller finished third (274.88).

The Mavericks' men's and women's swimming teams will compete next at the DakotaDome Pool between Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1, in the Coyote Invite. The diving teams will return to the H&K Pool to compete in and host the Omaha Dive Invite over the same two days.
