OMAHA, Neb. - In the final non-conference game of the season, the Mavericks once again got within one run of Creighton, but could not finish them off as they were defeated 2-1.
With their non-conference slates completed, Omaha heads into the weekend at 16-29-1, while the Bluejays are now 33-16.
Innings 1-3
Creighton was the first to get on the board in the opening inning, scoring on an error and a sac fly. The Mavericks had their chances to score early, getting two men on in the second and third, but Creighton's Jack Pineau managed to get out of both innings unscathed.
Ethan Louthan kept the Bluejays off the board in the second and third with only one hit allowed.
Innings 4-6
Curtis fired another back-to-back scoreless innings without allowing a hit in the fourth and fifth, followed by a 1-2-3 sixth from
Nick Scanlon. Meanwhile, Omaha got two men on in the fourth after a single from
Haiden Hunt and a walk to
Trent Burkhalter, but the Bluejays got out of trouble again.
Innings 7-9
The Mavericks finally got through to Creighton's bullpen in the top of the seventh as Burkhalter led off the inning with a double.
Matt Goetzmann then singled him over to third and
Drew Lechnir walked to load the bases with no outs. Omaha would only get one run, though, off a sac fly from
Tyler Bishop.
After a couple more scoreless innings from Scanlon and
Matt Dreher, the Mavericks went to the top of the ninth and once again loaded the bases with one out. In the end, however, Jimmy Burke came in for the Bluejays and got the final two outs to get the win for Creighton

Omaha lost all three games to Creighton this year by just one run each (8-7, 7-6, 2-1).
Louthan, Curtis, Scanlon, and Dreher combined for 6.1 scoreless innings in relief with just two hits allowed.
In three appearances against Creighton this season,
Carter Navin went 4.2 innings with just one earned run allowed while striking out three.
