Mavericks Split with UST to Open Road Weekend

The Omaha Mavericks softball squad erupted for 11 runs in their first game of the day to defeat the St. Thomas Tommies 11-3 and extend their Division I era-best winning streak to 16 games. In the latter half of the doubleheader, Omaha battled the Tommies hard but fell 5-3 in eight innings. The Mavericks and Tommies will wrap up this weekend's series tomorrow afternoon from St. Paul, Minn. First pitch gets thrown out at noon.

The Mavericks improved to a 27-8 overall record and are now 4-1 in conference play. With the series opener win, the Mavericks had tied Oklahoma for the longest winning streak in the country. 

Game One: Omaha 11, St. Thomas 3 
How It Happened

    • Jaelle Johnson got the scoring started with an RBI single up the middle to score Alex Olson.
    • The Mavericks had an explosive sixth inning with nine runs.  
    • Alex Olson put Omaha up 2-0 with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Sammy Schmidt
    • Johnson had her second RBI of the day after she grounded out to short but scored Ava Rongisch
    • Marra Cramer had a two-RBI double to put Omaha up 5-0. 
    • Lynsey Tucker reached on a fielder's choice and scored in Marra Cramer.
    • Schmidt added two more on the board with a triple to right. 
    • The final two runs of the inning that put Omaha in double digits came from Haley Wilwerding's double to center that scored Rongisch and Schmidt.
    • St. Thomas got on the board in the sixth inning with a three-run homer run to left field. 
    • Tucker added one final run with a single to center to drive in Cramer, making it 11-3. 

Game Notes
    - Kamryn Meyer picked up her 16th victory after pitching the first six innings of the game. Meyer threw four strikeouts and held UST to just five hits and three runs. 
    - Tatum Montelongo took over in the seventh inning where she saw three batters. 
    - Marra Cramer went 2-for-4 where she recorded two RBIs and two runs. 
    - Lynsey Tucker went 3-for-4, recording two RBIs and one run. 
    - Cramer, Rongisch, and Maggie O'Brien each notched one stole base. 
    - Jaelle Johnson had a team-high seven putouts.
    - O'Brien and Olivia Aden each had three assists.

How It Happened

    • Jaelle Johnson got the scoring started again in game two during the second inning with a sacrifice fly to right that scored Sydney Ross
    • St. Thomas took the lead during the third with a two-run home run to center. 
    • O'Brien tied it at two in the fourth with an RBI single that scored Jaelle Johnson
    • Sydney Thomason doubled to left to score Tucker and take the lead back for the Mavericks.
    • The Tommies tied it at 3 in the fifth with a single to center. 
    • After going to extra innings, St. Thomas took the win in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run home run to left. 

Game Notes
    - Sydney Nuismer pitched 7.2 innings where she threw five strikeouts. 
    - O'Brien went 2-for-4 and recorded one RBI.
    - Johnson recorded one RBI and one run.
    - Aden recorded four assists.
