Mavericks Score 10 vs. UNC to Claim Fourth Straight Series

OMAHA, Neb. - With their fourth straight win on 10+ runs, the Mavericks, backed by a no-hit performance from Caleb Riedel, have won their fourth series in a row after topping Northern Colorado 10-2 tonight.

Omaha is the first team in the Summit League to reach 10 wins as they end the night at 12-22 overall and 10-7 in the conference. Meanwhile, the Bears lose their fourth straight to fall to 7-29-1 on the season and 6-10-1 in league play.

Innings 1-3
The Mavericks scored all the runs they needed in the first inning today after putting up a seven spot and knocking out starting pitcher Hunter Gibson with only two outs under his belt. 13 batters came to the plate in the inning with the first five all reaching safely. Noah Greise opened up the scoring with a bases-clearing double down the left field line and was then immediately driven in by a Jackson Trout single. Zach Lechnir would get the second RBI double of the inning to make it 5-0, before an error and a walk brought in the sixth and seventh runs.

Conversely, the Bears could not get anything started on offense as Riedel was as sharp as he has been all season, allowing just one base runner while striking out six in the first three innings.

Innings 4-6
Riedel's dominance continued into the middle innings retiring all nine batters he faced, including three more strikeouts. After a lead-off walk in the second inning, he set down the next 15 batters in order.

In the bottom of the fifth, Omaha added another run on its third RBI double of the game, this one courtesy of Trent Burkhalter.

Innings 7-9
Riedel finished his day with another scoreless inning in the seventh, recording his 10th and 11th strikeouts in the process for a new season high.

Later, in the bottom of the eighth, Drew Lechnir put the cherry on top of the evening with a two-run to right to get Omaha to 10 runs. Though the Bears managed to score a couple runs over the final two innings, it was nowhere near enough to get them back in the game as the Mavericks cruised to their fourth win in a row.

Inside the Box Score
All told Riedel allowed just two base runners across seven no-hit innings. With his 11 strikeouts, this is his fourth career game with double digit strikeouts. Likewise, this is his fifth career game with at least seven innings pitched.

Through the first two games of the series, Drew Lechnir is batting 7-for-9 with eight RBIs, three runs scored, and two extra-base hits.

On Deck
Omaha goes for the series sweep tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. as the Mavericks close out their homestand with Harrison Kreiling (1-1) set to face off with Trevor Landen (0-1).
