The Basics
The Summit League Tournament continues. The No. 6 Omaha Mavericks will take on the No. 7 Denver Pioneers Monday at 8:30 p.m. in the semifinals round of the championship.

Quick Hits
  • The Mavericks pulled off a remarkable nine-point comeback in the final three minutes yesterday to beat No. 3 North Dakota 73-72 and move on to the semifinals vs. No. 7 Denver.
  • Omaha went on a 10-0 run to end the game, capped off by the game-winning layup from Frankie Fidler with three seconds left on the clock.
  • Omaha shot an even 50.0% on the day and scored 52 points in the paint vs. just 30 for UND.
  • Fidler had another career day, tying his season high with 34 points and pulling down 10 rebounds for his 10th career double-double. He also moved into seventh place all-time at Omaha in scoring with 1480 points. He is 22 points away from reaching sixth place and eight rebounds from 500. He would become the 15th Maverick ever and fouth among D1 only players to reach 1000 points and 500 rebounds.
  • Fidler's 15 field goals were also tied for the most ever by a player in the Summit League Tournament. Likewise, his 34 points are the most by any player in the tournament since...himself when he dropped 34 on South Dakota State back in 2022.
  • Tony Osburn made his triumphant return to the lineup after missing six games. He scored five points and had the first three-pointer of the day for Omaha.
  • Marquel Sutton and Nick Davis both scored double figures against UND, combining for 25 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Grant Stubblefield, Marcel Bryant, Nick Davis, and Biko Johnson are Omaha's top newcomers coming into this season.
  • Stubblefield was named 6A Player of the Year and First Team All-State while at Blue Valley Northwest and Bryant was named the Austin Area Player of the Year at Cedar Ridge. Johnson is coming off his second season at Western Nebraska CC where he was named All-Conference and All-Nebraska, while Davis is fresh off winning GAC Defensive Player of the Year and a trip to the Sweet 16 of the Division II NCAA Tournament with Southern Nazarene.
  • Fidler was Omaha's lone All-Summit honoree last season, earning an Honorable Mention. He led Omaha in scoring (14.7 ppg), rebounding (5.8 rpg), steals (1.2 spg), and free throw percentage (.887), with his FT% in particular ranking in the NCAA's top-25 for most of the season.
  • Head Coach Chris Crutchfield has a 34-49 career record. It marks his third season as a head coach and second with the Mavericks.

Scouting the Denver Pioneers
The Pioneers are fresh off their own late comeback culminating in a one-point victory yesterday, upsetting No. 2 Kansas City 61-60 after a huge second half.

First Team All-Summit honoree Tommy Bruner led the charge with 16 points and four assists on Sunday, while Jaxon Brenchley and DeAndre Craig both scored in double figures too. Craig also paced Denver with seven boards. Honorable Mention All-Summit Touko Tainamo had five rebounds in the contest.

Head Coach Jeff Wulbrun is in his third year with the Pioneers and has led them to back-to-back double-digit win seasons. Prior to Denver, he worked as an assistant coach at Stanford, California, Illinois State, and UAB, helping the latter three to the NCAA Tournament.

All-Time Against Denver
Omaha pulled ahead 13-12 in the all-time series with Denver following a 91-72 victory back in January. Fidler bested Bruner in that game with 31 points and five rebounds vs. 21 points and three boards.
