Quick Hits
  • The Mavericks went 1-1 last week with a pair of incredibly close games, first beating Oral Roberts 71-70 in their home finale, before falling in the final minute at Kansas City 63-58.
  • Omaha is now 3-8 on the year in games decided by five points or less. Saturday's game was so evenly matched between the Mavericks and the Roos, there were 13 lead changes and 11 tied scores.
  • The big story coming out of last week was Frankie Fidler breaking the program's single-season scoring record in the Division I era on Saturday when he made a buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the first half with exactly 579 points this year to break the record. Also notable was that on Thursday, he set a new career high with 13 rebounds in his second consecutive double-double.
  • At seven points away from 600 on the season, Fidler is set to become the first Maverick since 1973 (Calvin Forrest) to reach 600 in a single season.
  • Marquel Sutton also had another great week, totaling 30 points and 10 rebounds, bringing him to 371 points on the season and 194 total rebounds. With six more boards, he would be the first Maverick since Matt Pile in the 2020-21 season to reach 200 rebounds in a season.
  • Grant Stubblefield had a productive day off the bench on Saturday, scoring 10 and pulling down three boards. He now has four games with double-digit points this season.
  • At 34 blocks on the year, Nick Davis only needs two more to tie Dylan Brougham's 2022-23 total for the 3rd most in a single season by a Maverick in the D1 era.
  • Grant Stubblefield, Marcel Bryant, Nick Davis, and Biko Johnson are Omaha's top newcomers coming into this season.
  • Stubblefield was named 6A Player of the Year and First Team All-State while at Blue Valley Northwest and Bryant was named the Austin Area Player of the Year at Cedar Ridge. Johnson is coming off his second season at Western Nebraska CC where he was named All-Conference and All-Nebraska, while Davis is fresh off winning GAC Defensive Player of the Year and a trip to the Sweet 16 of the Division II NCAA Tournament with Southern Nazarene.
  • Fidler was Omaha's lone All-Summit honoree last season, earning an Honorable Mention. He led Omaha in scoring (14.7 ppg), rebounding (5.8 rpg), steals (1.2 spg), and free throw percentage (.887), with his FT% in particular ranking in the NCAA's top-25 for most of the season.
  • Head Coach Chris Crutchfield has a 33-48 career record. It marks his third season as a head coach and second with the Mavericks.

Scouting the St. Thomas Tommies
The Tommies are directly ahead of Omaha in the Summit League standings with a 17-12 overall record and a 7-7 conference mark. They are coming off their first 0-2 week this season after falling to NDSU 64-50 and SDSU 77-72.

Led by graduate student forward Parker Bjorklund's 13.4 ppg, UST boasts three players scoring over 10.0 ppg, with the other two being graduate student guard Anthony Raheem (12.3 ppg) and sophomore guard Kendall Blue (10.2 ppg). Bjorklund slots in at 13th in the league in scoring, fourth in FG% at .481, and 19th in rebounding (4.5 rpg), one spot behind Raheem (4.6 rpg). As for Raheem, he is also fifth in assists (3.1 apg) and fourth in steals (1.4 spg).

Head Coach Johnny Tauer led the Tommies over their final decade of Division III competition, winning the 2016 National Championship and making seven total Tournament appearances. A 2001 St. Thomas Athletic Hall of Fame inductee following his playing career, Tauer has since amassed a 261-92 record as the program's head coach.

All-Time Against St. Thomas
The Mavericks moved to 1-4 all-time against St. Thomas when earlier this month when they defeated them for the first time ever in a 69-65 home victory. Fidler led Omaha with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Parker Bjorklund paced the Tommies with 20 points.
