Scouting the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles
ORU continues to be a very streaky team, following up their three-game winning streak that began against Omaha in January with four straight losses, bringing the Golden Eagles to 11-15 overall and 5-8 in the Summit League.
Senior guard Issac McBride became the third player in the conference this year to top 500 points last week after scoring 37 against NDSU and UND. Currently, he is second in the league in ppg with 20.4 and third in points with 530. A key factor in his offensive production is his league-leading .883 FT% and the ninth-best FG% at .443.
Graduate student guard Kareem Thompson is fifth in the league in rebounding at 6.7 rpg, just 0.1 behind fellow guard Jailen Bedford. Thompson also ranks third in steals with 41 and fourth in assists with 92, while his 12.9 ppg place him at 15th.
First-time Head Coach Russell Springmann has been with ORU since the 2018-19 season as an assistant and helped the Golden Eagles reach the Sweet 16 back in the 2020-21 season. Prior to ORU, Springmann spent a season with the Oklahoma City Thunder and 14 with Texas, where he helped lead the Longhorns to 13 NCAA Tournament appearances.
