CHICAGO - DePaul fired on all cylinders in a pivotal fourth set and carried the momentum into the final frame Friday as Omaha volleyball fell to the Blue Demons in the Super 16 round of the 2024 NIVC tournament. DePaul capped the five-set victory 20-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-20 and 15-13.
After a dominant first set, Omaha couldn't sustain in the lead in the second with DePaul holding an eight-point lead at 20-12. Omaha tightened things up down the stretch of the second frame with a 5-0 run to tie the scoring affair up at 22 before the home club went 3-1 in the final four points to tie the match at one set-all.
Omaha would put up an impressive rally again in the third set to avenge a 16-11 deficit en route to a 26-24 set win that included a couple lengthy official reviews.
DePaul would go on to close-out the final two frames in the matchup punching their ticket to the Great 8 where they will travel to Bowling Green.
Omaha hit .277 in the matchup with a balanced attack with a team-high 12 kills from
Shayla McCormick and 11 kills each from
Amanda Hardt,
Kali Jurgensmeier and
McKenna Ruch.
Brynlee Arnold had a near double-double of nine kills and seven blocks.
Julia Owens dished 21 assists with 10 digs, matching
Kenedy Schaecher's 10 for the team high.
Omaha volleyball finishes the campaign 17-13, including a 14-2 mark in the Summit League. The Mavericks reached the postseason for the third-straight season.
