Two Mavericks win weekly Summit League Swim and Dive honors

Dec 17, 2024

OMAHA, Neb. – Senior Hailey Matthews and freshman Ava Snyder have been named this week's Summit League Women's Peak Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the conference Tuesday.

This marks the second time both athletes have received weekly honors from the Summit League in 2024-25. Matthews has received three Summit League weekly honors overall. Her first was as a freshman in 2021-22.

Snyder was given Peak Diver of the Week on Oct. 8, 2024, in the first week of this season's honors by the conference.

Matthews performed well when the Omaha Women's Swim and Dive team competed at Nebraska last Wednesday in Lincoln, Neb. The senior placed first in both individual events she competed in, recording a time of 1:53.19 in the 200 free, and also clocked in at 57.95 during the 100 back.

Additionally, Matthews collected a 25.71 on her fly leg in Omaha's second-place finish in the 200 medley relay.

"Hailey has been strong for us all season and is well versed at being elite in so many events," head coach Jessica Hessel said. "She had some great swims last week, and this is a well-deserved honor, as it recognizes the hard work she puts in daily."

Snyder finished fifth in the three-meter dive, scoring 230.33, and a sixth-place finish, scoring 230.25 in the one-meter dive at Nebraska last week.

"This was a well-earned award this week," assistant coach (diving) Eric Sprague said.  "Ava had a couple of dives she struggled with leading into this competition, and watching her focus and determination perform those dives well was inspirational.  Her ability to finish those dives will provide valuable experience as we enter the season's end."

The Mavericks will return when they host Saint Louis at 10 a.m. on Jan. 18 at the H&K Pool in Omaha, Neb.
