ST. PAUL, Minn. - Omaha volleyball closed-out the season series against St. Thomas on Saturday, sweeping the Tommies to win the second and final regular season meeting between the two squads. The Mavericks improved to 2-0 against UST this season, winning the three sets on the road 25-23, 25-22 and 25-19.
Omaha got off to a fast start in the opening set with a pair of kills by
Shayla McCormick before the home Tommies rallied on a 6-1 run to take a 9-4 lead in the first. The Mavs would retake the lead later on at 20-19 on a
Brynlee Arnold kill before closing-out the 25-23 victory. Omaha hit .311 as a team in the first set on 19 kills.
Scoring was close again in the second frame, though Omaha would not trail after grabbing a 2-0 lead to start things off.
Taking advantage of the Tommies' seven errors in the third, Omaha would clinch the sweep to move to 10-2 in Summit League action and 12-11 overall on the campaign.
Kali Jurgensmeier paced all players with 12 kills in 29 attacks, while also contributing to the defensive effort with four block assists. Emily Huss had the Mavs' lone solo block of the three-setter and tallied six block assists.
With 10 kills, seven aces and a block assist,
McKenna Ruch led the Mavs with 17.5 points.
Volleyball takes the court next on Nov. 10 at Oral Roberts at 1 p.m. CT on the Summit League Network. The Mavericks return to Baxter Arena on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. CT to face Denver. Tickets are on-sale now at
