OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha volleyball is in the final stretch of the regular season and now owns a three-match win streak.
In their first home game since the Halloween matchup against South Dakota State, Omaha was able to secure a three-set sweep of Denver (11-13, 6-8 Summit) in the penultimate home match of the regular season in front of 1,238 fans.
Prior to the match, Omaha honored two players for reaching the 1,000 kill club. Senior outside hitter
Shayla McCormick and graduate student middle blocker
McKenna Ruch became the 22nd and 23rd Mavericks, respectively, to join the 1,000 kill club. McCormick reached 1,000 kills in September during a match with Wichita State. Ruch joined the club shortly after in October.
The first set started out in favor of the Mavericks. Thanks to an impressive 15 kills to DU's 7, Omaha closed out the set 25-18.
The Pioneers weren't willing to let the Mavericks go without a fight. The Mavericks were able to pull ahead and create a sizable lead between themselves and the Pioneers, but DU never let them get too far. The set ended 25-20 with a kill by
Kali Jurgensmeier and an assist from
Ivy Leuck.
The Mavericks dominated DU in the third set. With a total of 13 kills and 4 service aces, the Pioneers were unable to keep pace and fell to the Mavericks 15-25.
With the win Omaha improves to 14-11 overall and 12-2 in-conference.
Omaha will play again at Baxter Arena on Saturday, Nov 16 against South Dakota at 7 p.m. CT. for Senior Night. The match will be available to stream on the Summit League Network. Tickets are available at
