VERMILLION, S.D. - Omaha continued their unbeaten start to the Summit League season with a four-set win over South Dakota, 25-18, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18.
The Mavericks were led by graduate student
McKenna Ruch with 14 kills, leaving her one away from 1,000 in her Omaha career. She added a block and six block assists.
Shayla McCormick had 12 kills and 13 digs, while sophomore
Ivy Leuck had 15 digs and 18 assists.
Omaha (5-9, 3-0) entered the night with a perfect slate in their first two conference matches, but dropped the second set to host South Dakota (10-5, 2-2), their first in Summit League play this season. From that point they resumed their attack with an 80% attack rate in the third and 72% in the deciding fourth. Omaha's hitting percentage for the match (.187) doubled up the Coyotes (.091).
The Mavericks continue their Summit League schedule in Brookings against South Dakota State Thursday night. They return home to Baxter Arena to host North Dakota State on Saturday, October 12th at 6 p.m. CT.
