Mavericks Claim Huge Road Victory at Denver

DENVER, Colo. - The Mavericks ended January with a commanding victory on Saturday when they began the second half of conference play with a massive 91-72 road victory over Denver, becoming just the second team this season to beat Denver at home.

Omaha ends a three-game losing streak to improve to 11-12 on the season and return to .500 in the Summit League at 4-4. The Mavericks have now matched their conference win total from last season with nine games left to play. Meanwhile, the Pioneers are now 13-9 and remain half a game ahead of the Mavericks at 4-3 in league play.

Leaders for Omaha
Frankie Fidler had another impressive performance as he led Omaha with 31 points, shooting 10-for-17 from the field and 4-for-9 from behind the arc. Marquel Sutton also eclipsed 20 points today with 22 after going 9-for-14. Tony Osburn was the third Maverick to reach double digits with 18 points, with all of them coming via the deep ball as he went 6-for-9 on threes.

Meanwhile, Nick Davis led the defense with eight rebounds and a new Maverick season-high five blocks.

Leaders for Denver
Tommy Bruner was held to only 21 points today after scoring 49 on Thursday vs. South Dakota. He was one of only two Pioneers to reach double figures today, the other being Jaxon Brenchley with 11.

Team Stats
The Mavericks led in nearly every single major stat today, besting the Pioneers across the board in shooting in FG% (56.9% to 35.3%), 3-PT FG% (56.5% to 33.3%) and FT% (100% to 81.3%). They also held a sizable 40 to 29 edge in rebounds, out-blocked them seven to three, and topped them on assists at 17 to 13.

Inside the First Half
Initially trailing 8-7 three and a half minutes in, a layup from Sutton gave the Mavericks back the lead and they never gave it up. Buckets for Fidler, Sutton, and Davis over the next three minutes made it 15-10. Though the Pioneers got within one at the 11-minute mark, a turnaround jumper from Fidler followed by the first triple of day from Osburn made it 20-14.

Again, however, Denver was able to fight back and even tie the game at 20-20 with eight minutes to go. That would be as close as the Pioneers would get for the rest of the half as an alley-oop from Fidler at 7:15 jump started a 7-0 scoring run featuring another three from Osburn. Fidler and Osburn would each get another three-pointer inside of five minutes to make it 35-27. After a block from Davis, JJ White would send it to halftime with a last-second layup to put Omaha up 43-33.

Inside the Second Half
The Mavericks got off to one of their strongest starts in any half of the season in the second as they opened things with a 17-0 scoring run to go up by 27 points just four minutes in. Osburn kicked things off with his fourth three-pointer just 14 seconds in, before Fidler drained two more from behind the arc. Omaha would continue thriving from deep as Osburn nailed his fifth triple at 13:13.

Five points from Sutton over the next two minutes grew the lead to a 31-point lead at 71-40, followed by yet another three-pointer from Osburn to make it 74-43 with just over 10 minutes to play. Over the final 10 minutes, Fidler made six more from the stripe to top 30 points on the day. While Denver was able to bring Omaha's lead down back under 20 points, it was not anywhere near enough as the Mavericks capped off January with the win.

Game Notes
- Fidler moved into 16th on Omaha's all-time scoring list with his first score of the day. His 31 points would ultimately put him at 1283 career points, placing him in 15th on the leaderboard.
- Fidler has three games this season with at least 30 points, while Sutton picks up his fourth game with at least 20 points.
- Osburn now has three games this season with at least four 3-PT FGs made and his third straight where all his points came on three-pointers.
- Jaeden Marshall, playing for the first time since January 11 vs. North Dakota, scored the first points from Omaha's bench today with a three-pointer at 8:35 in the second half.
