Mavericks Fall in Close Battle to Oral Roberts

Omaha, Neb. - The Omaha Mavericks had a close 40-minute battle against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles but ultimately fell 88-78. 
 
Omaha falls to a 4-16 overall on the season and 0-7 in conference play. 

Leaders For Omaha
Omaha was led in scoring by Kennedi Grant who put up 17 points, going 6-of-19 on shots. Grant also led in rebounds and steals with nine and four respectively. Grant and Grace Cave paced the Mavericks with four assists each. Cave tied her season-high two blocks to lead the team. 
 
Leaders for Oral Roberts
Five different Golden Eagles had double-digit points, paced by Hannah Cooper who notched 19. Ruthie Udoumoh had a 13-point 14-rebound double-double. Cooper also carried the team-high five steals.  

Team Stats
Omaha trailed just behind in shooting going 42.4% (25-of-59) to 43.7% (31-of-71). The Mavericks had the high three-point percentage going 33.3% (8-of-24) to the Golden Eagles 31.6% (6-of-19). On the free throw line, Omaha also led (81.8%, 18-of-22 vs. 73.3%, 22-of-30)

Inside the First Quarter
Omaha had a strong opening 10 minutes, collecting the lead right off the bat. Grant wasted no time getting the free throw line to Omaha the first point of the game at 9:35. The Mavericks went on a seven-point scoring streak to give them a 10-4 lead. The Golden Eagles responded with six unanswered points, closing the gap to 13-12. Omaha clawed their way to an eight-point lead at 0:32 after Grant sunk another free throw. Grant contributed eight of the 24 points scored in the first. The Golden Eagles seven turnovers helped the Mavericks keep their score at bay for a 24-18 lead at the end of the quarter. 

Inside the Second Quarter
The Golden Eagles came into the second hot with a three-point jumper at 9:38. After only four points in the first three minutes of the quarter, the Mavericks were tied 26-26 at 6:58. After a jumper by the Eagles to tie the game, the Mavericks started trailing in points. Holding the gap to only four, Omaha got within one at 0:22 after Cave made a jump shot outside of the paint. The second half ended 45-41 in ORU's favor, after Golden Eagles' three-pointer. 

Inside the Third Quarter
Omaha had their lowest-scoring quarter, only getting 14 on the board. Although the shots weren't sinking, the Maverick defense forced three of the four turnovers and Cave made one major block. On the free throw line, Omaha picked up four extra points. The Golden Eagles were finding success on the arc, going 3-of-8 and favored on the rebounds in the third, 16-9. Omaha's defense kept ORU to just 18 points, to close the quart 55-63. 

 Inside the Fourth Quarter
Omaha started the fourth quarter with an eight-point deficit. The Mavericks had foul trouble as they took seven, giving up eight points on the line. Though having their own foul trouble, Omaha drew nine fouls, for nine points on the charity stripe. From the field, Omaha shot 46.2% (6-of-13) and the Eagles shot 42.1% (8-of-19). After battling through the quarter, ORU won 88-78.
