The Basics
The Mavericks look to regain ground in the conference this week as they hit the road for two, starting with a 7 p.m. game at Oral Roberts on Thursday.

- The Mavericks went 0-2 last week, with both games coming down to the wire as their 90-87 loss at SDSU and 74-72 loss vs. Kansas City were each a last-second missed field goal away from going to overtime. Omaha went from first place in the conference to third at 10-11 overall and 3-3 in the Summit League.
- As a team, the Mavericks were incredibly efficient from the floor in both losses, shooting a combined 52.3% (57-for-109) on field goals and 40.5% (15-for-37) on three-pointers.
- Omaha was nearly equal with their opponents last week on rebounds (62 to 65) and blocks (four each), while the Mavericks held a 13-to-4 lead in steals.
- Frankie Fidler extended his double-digit points streak to 15 games, adding another 35 last week. His 18.6 ppg are third in the conference, while his 390 points are second. He also continues to lead the league in FT% at 87.4% (139-for-159).
- Marquel Sutton was Omaha's leading scorer last week, shooting 17-for-28 (60.7%) for 41 points, topping 20 in both games. At SDSU, he recorded his second double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Sutton currently sits in seventh in the Summit with 6.1 rpg and fourth with 129 total boards.
- Nick Davis had a two-block game at SDSU, bringing his season total to 23 blocks, good for fifth in the league. He also added 14 more points to get him within nine of becoming the third Maverick this year to reach 200 points, as well as pulling down 12 boards to become the third Maverick to top 100 rebounds.
- Grant Stubblefield, Marcel Bryant, Nick Davis, and Biko Johnson are Omaha's top newcomers coming into this season.
- Stubblefield was named 6A Player of the Year and First Team All-State while at Blue Valley Northwest and Bryant was named the Austin Area Player of the Year at Cedar Ridge. Johnson is coming off his second season at Western Nebraska CC where he was named All-Conference and All-Nebraska, while Davis is fresh off winning GAC Defensive Player of the Year and a trip to the Sweet 16 of the Division II NCAA Tournament with Southern Nazarene.
- Fidler was Omaha's lone All-Summit honoree last season, earning an Honorable Mention. He led Omaha in scoring (14.7 ppg), rebounding (5.8 rpg), steals (1.2 spg), and free throw percentage (.887), with his FT% in particular ranking in the NCAA's top-25 for most of the season.
- Head Coach Chris Crutchfield has a 29-43 career record. It marks his third season as a head coach and second with the Mavericks.
Scouting the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles
The reigning Summit League champs are having a rough go of it this year, entering the week at 8-11 overall and 2-4 in the conference. They are currently on a three-game losing streak, falling to St. Thomas (76-87), North Dakota (77-87), and NDSU (67-72) over the past two weeks.
Senior guard Issac McBride is the second leading scorer in the conference this year with 20.2 ppg, as well as 383 total points. His .856 FT% is second to only Fidler this season and he currently owns a 10-game double-digit points streak.
Junior guard Jailen Bedford and graduate student guard Kareem Thompson are fourth and fifth in the league in rebounding at 6.7 rpg (128 total) and 6.5 rpg (124 total), respectively. Bedford is also the seventh ranked shooter in the league with a .447 FG%, while Thompson is second in steals (1.5 spg, 29 total) and third in assists (3.6 apg, 69 total).
First-time Head Coach Russell Springmann has been with ORU since the 2018-19 season as an assistant and helped the Golden Eagles reach the Sweet 16 back in the 2020-21 season. Prior to ORU, Springmann spent a season with the Oklahoma City Thunder and 14 with Texas, where he helped lead the Longhorns to 13 NCAA Tournament appearances.
All-Time Against Oral Roberts
Omaha is 4-17 against ORU all-time, with their last victory coming on January 4, 2020 when they won 74-67 at home. In the first meeting last year, Omaha nearly pulled off a massive upset, being narrowly defeated 92-89. The second game saw the Mavericks down by just two at the half, but ultimately falling 73-64.
Frankie Fidler and
Marquel Sutton were Omaha's leading scorers and rebounders last year, with the former recording 37 points and 17 boards, and the latter having 33 points and 12 boards.
