Omaha, Neb. - The Omaha Mavericks come out of Monday's match with a 2-1 win against the Grand Canyon Antelopes. The Mavericks responded back from a one goal deficit with two goals in the second to secure their first regular season win.
The Mavericks improve to 1-3-0 overall record on the season.
How It Happened
• Monday's match started off in the Antelopes favor. GCU forward, Clayton Duarte, got a look at the open side of the net and recorded the first goal of the game in the 30th minute.
• At the end of the first 45 minutes, the Mavericks were down 1-0 but were leading in shots. Omaha had taken 12 shots and five shots on goal in the first, compared to the Lopes seven shots and four shots on goal.
• Just five minutes into the second half
Wawa Palga found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. After a pass from
Martin Lago, Palga ripped a shot from the crease to the top right corner past the two defenseman covering him.

Lute Lillo Portero made two huge saves in the second to keep the score tied 1-1.
• In the 75th minute the Mavericks pulled ahead. It started with a yellow card on the Lopes just outside the box.
Gonzalo Cuevas fired a shot but it was blocked by a GCU player. The blocked shot was tapped by
Maruki Kawahara to Palga who headed the ball right to the goal line and at the feet of
Ede Gramberg. Gramberg tapped the shot into the net and seal a 2-1 win for the Mavericks.
Inside the Box
• The Mavericks out-shot the Lopes 21-13 and led shots on goal 8-7.
• The Mavericks had the upper hand on corner kick opportunities with seven and only allowing six to GCU.

Wawa Palga and
Ede Gramberg both scored their first goals of the season. Palga's goal was his first as a Maverick.
• Palga also recorded his first assist of the season.
• With a goal and an assist, Palga is the first Maverick of the season to have a three-point game.
• Lago has now recorded assists in the last two games.
• Cuevas led the team in shots with three.
• With six saves, Lillo Portero tied his career high save record.
• Lillo Portero improves to 1-3-0 .
