Springfield, Mo.-- The Omaha women's golf team completed the first tournament of the 2023-24 season, taking 12th place at the Payne Stewart Memorial after the final round on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
Omaha finished the third and final round with a team score of 307, totaling 903 over the 54-hole tournament hosted by Missouri State. The Mavericks were five strokes behind Texas A&M Corpus Christi which took 11th place with 898, and had 17 strokes on 13th place Loyola Chicago which totaled 920. Oral Roberts earned first place with a team total of 868, and California Baptist's Sofia Chabon took home the individual medal with a 54-hole score of 208 (-8).
Macarena Garcia led the Mavericks from start to finish at the Payne Stewart Memorial. Garcia totaled 223 after a third round score of 79 (+7), earning a share of 23rd place on the individual leaderboard.
Sydney Taake scored 76 (+4), and finished the event with a total score of 226. Taake tied for 32nd overall. A stroke behind Taake was Emily Karmazin, who finished with a three-round total of 227. Karmazin tied for 34th after a 73 (+1) in round three.
Nicole Hansen finished a stroke behind Karmazin with a total score of 228. Hansen recorded a 79 (+7) in the final round on Tuesday for a share of 38th place on the leaderboard. Golfing individually, Lavinia Romito scored a stroke behind Hansen with a total score of 229. Romito tied for 42nd place after a 75 (+3) in the third round.
Emma Kirvan also golfed individually at the Payne Stewart Memorial. Kirvan took home a share of 67th place after a three round total of 238. Mika Miyata scored 242 and tied for 79th place after day two.
The Mavericks return to the show-me state Sept. 25-27 for the Johnie Imes Invitational hosted by Missouri.
