San Antonio, Tex. - The Mavericks drop their regular season opener 2-1 against the Incarnate Word Cardinals. Despite the 1-0 early lead it wasn't enough to outlast the Cardinals in the second.
The Mavericks fall to 0-1-0 on the year.
How It Happened
» Thursday's match started out in Omaha's favor. The Cardinal goalkeeper was called for a yellow card for touching the ball outside the box.

Sokol Ymeraj took the free kick at the corner of the box. His shot took a bounce in front of the keeper and bounced over him and into the net for a 1-0 lead.
» The Cardinals equalized the score just a minute and a half into the second half. With a pass from Francisco Segura, Edgar Soto took a shot from the middle of the box between the defenders, netting their first goal.
» In the 71st minute, Sello Diphoko took a long shot from the 40 yard line the went over the head of Lillo Portero. The Cardinals then held a 2-1 lead.
» Omaha had four corner kicks in the second that lead to some solid shots on goal but the Mavs were unable to get it past Hugo Constant.
» With just two seconds left the Mavericks were inches from tying the game with a shot in the net but were called offsides. Ultimately leading to the Cardinals 2-1 win.
Inside the Box
» The Mavericks outshot the Cardinals 6-2, but Incarnate Word led shots on goal 3-2.
» Ymeraj recorded his first goal with the Mavericks.

Theo Klein led the team with three shots and had one of the two shots on goal.
» Lillo Portero made one save in goal and falls to 0-1-0.
