OMAHA, Neb. - With their highest scoring game in over two years, the Mavericks completed the sweep of Northern Colorado on Sunday with a 16-6 rout that ended via mercy rule in the eighth inning.
Omaha is now only a game below .500 for the first time this season at 10-11, while also surging to 4-2 in the Summit League. Conversely, the Bears fall to 4-20 on the season and 2-4 in the conference.
Innings 1-3
Right away, Omaha's offense was firing on all cylinders. In the bottom of the first,
Haiden Hunt began the day with his first double and was promptly driven in by a
Cam Frederick single. Then, after going 18 games without a home run this season,
Mike Boeve finally went yard with a two-run bomb to right. Later on in the inning,
Eddie Satisky knocked a double of his own to drive in a run, before being brought home himself by
Eduardo Rosario.
After tacking on three more runs in the second,
Henry Zipay, five days removed from driving in his first career run, unloaded on a pitch and set the ball clear over the right field wall for his first career home run.
Innings 4-6
The Mavericks were actually held scoreless over the next two innings, and only managed to score a run in the sixth on a wild pitch that allowed Boeve to come home. Meanwhile,
Harrison Kreiling, making his first start of the season, was done after giving up two runs in 3.1 innings on 82 pitches. Overall, the Bears managed to pick up four runs between the third and fifth innings to make it a five-run game.
Innings 7-8
After a quiet middle three innings, Omaha's bats got hot in the seventh. Hunt led off with his third double of the day and was once again driven in by Frederick, this time on a home run right off the batter's eye in straight away center. Two pitches later,
Noah Greise got in on the home run parade and launched his first of the year to make it 13-5.
The next inning, the Mavericks put away the Bears for good after Boeve reached on an error and Greise and
Devin Hurdle drew back-to-back two-out walks, setting up Satisky to lace one into center to drive in two and give Omaha all the runs it needed to draw the mercy rule.
