Softball Goes 1-1 to Open Up the Weekend

CONWAY, Ark. - The Omaha Mavericks Softball squad went 1-1 yesterday to open up the Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic. Omaha fell in a pitchers duel to Central Arkansas in walkoff fashion in the bottom of the 7th inning in game 1. They responded with with a 7-1 besting over Alcorn State to secure their eighth victory of the season.

How It Happened
  • Omaha's two hits came from Rachel Weber Olivia Aden in the 2nd and 3rd innings
  • Pitcher Kamryn Meyer got out of a bases loaded jam with two outs in the bottom of the 2nd inning
  • Central Arkansas doubled with runners on second and third base in the bottom of the 7th inning 
Game Notes
  • Kamryn Meyer got the nod on the mound. In 6.1 innings pitched, she threw nine strikeouts and allowed just four hits.
  • Meyer's season total for strikeouts improved to 52

How It Happened
  • The Mavericks started strong batting in three runs in the first inning to take a 3-0
  • Alcorn State got their lone run of the game off a single in the top of the 4th inning
  • Omaha opened the floodgates by adding four more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning
  • Sydney Ross hit her second homerun of the season to open the 6th inning scoring
  • Alex Olson tripled and was driven in by a double from Jaelle Johnson to make it 5-1
  • Johnson was driven by a Sophie Cerveny triple to extend the lead to 6-1
  • Jenna Marshall tallied seventh and final run of the game for Mavericks when Lynsey Tucker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded

  • Omaha totaled seven runs on eight hits
  • The Mavericks had a season high five stolen bases in game 2
  • Their seven runs scored was a season high 
  • Omaha had a season high two triples against Alcorn State
  • Sydney Nuismer registered her fifth win of the season on the mound to improve to 5-1
